The surgeons of Buthiers-Boulancourt

The excavation of the Early neolithic site of Buthiers-Boulancourt (Seine-et-Marne, Ile-de-France), revealed to Inrap archaeologists one of the oldest testimonies in France of a surgical operation. If the practice of trepanation is well attested in Neolithic Europe, the proofs of other types of intervention - notably amputation - are extremely rare.
