At the crossroads of the territory of the Bituriges Vivisqui (in Gironde, around Bordeaux), of the Petrucori (in Dordogne, around Périgueux) and the Nitiobroges (in the Lot-et-Garonne, around Agen), Lacoste was a prosperous village of Gallic craftsmen and traders. Between August 2007 and April 2008, the construction of a gas pipeline was an opportunity for a team from Inrap to excavate a strip 800 m long and 10 m large, and deepen knowledge of the site and its internal layout. The prosperity of this small town rested essentially on a society which very early on (as from the third century BC) developed an economy based on mass production, commerce and exchange, sometimes over very long distances.
