  • Crater formed by a bomb explosion in the castle of Caen (Calvados), in which were discovered German and British objects during an excavation taking place in 2011. The set of small finds includes a fob pocket watch with an inscription narrating the military journey of a German soldier.
Following many Allied air raids and bombings from June 6th to July 19th, 1944, Caen was freed as late as July 20th, 1944. 70% of the city was obliterated in the process.
